CORPORATE LIAISON COMMITTEE

The Corporate Liaison Committee was established in October, 2000. This committee advises the INCTR with respect to ethical and legal issues pertaining to its relationships with corporations that support educational or research programs and projects, or which develop partnerships with the INCTR that further the achievement of the INCTR's mission. It also actively assists the INCTR in expanding its corporate membership program. Members of the Corporate Liaison Committee are employees of corporations, or have expert knowledge of the corporate world.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE

The Education Committee advises the INCTR on all aspects of professional and public education pertinent to the achievement of its mission. It consists of a Steering Committee, comprised of a variety of health professionals and professional educators, and sub-committees comprised of specialists in each of the areas of education and training relevant to the INCTR's programs and projects. The full range of sub-committees includes Medical Oncology, Pediatric Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Laboratory Science, Oncology Nursing, Pharmacy, Data Management, Cancer Control and Public Education. Sub-committees take an active role in the INCTR's Visiting Expert Program and, in conjunction with participating institutions, prepare curricula, participate in educational and training workshops, and develop educational tools.

ETHICAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

The Ethical Review Committee was established in January, 2001 in order to provide the INCTR with independent ethical advice on research engaged in by the INCTR. The Ethical Review Committee is comprised of scientists, medical experts, ethicists, patient representatives and laypersons. It provides independent guidance, advice and decision on biomedical research protocols or programs sponsored by the INCTR as well as ethical advice on issues presented to it by the INCTR. The committee functions similarly to an institutional review board in the United States or a French Comité consultatif pour la protection des personnes dans la recherché biomédicale. The committee presents the conclusions of its reflections to the President of the INCTR in the form of independent, non-binding advice and/or a decision.

TISSUE BANKING COMMITTEE

The Tissue Banking Committee advises the INCTR with respect to ethical and legal issues pertaining to the collection, processing, storage and shipment of human samples of all kinds. It advises the INCTR in the establishment and maintenance of appropriate storage facilities for human samples, and in the development of a comprehensive database pertaining to tissue banks containing tissues collected or stored within the context of INCTR-approved studies. Members of the Tissue Banking Committee are ethicists, scientists, physicians, pathologists, and others with expert knowledge in tissue banking or related disciplines.

TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH COMMITTEE

The Translational Research Committee was established in May, 2002. This committee assists INCTR in the development of an interface between clinical and laboratory research within the INCTR network. In addition to providing advice to specific strategy groups in designing relevant laboratory programs, it assists the INCTR in developing policies and procedures related to laboratory activities.
