OFFICES

Offices work at a national or regional level with respect to furthering the INCTR's mission. Offices, unlike branches, are not legally established entities within the countries in which they are located, but function as extensions of the INCTR, Brussels. Offices conduct similar activities to Branches, i.e., establishing and maintaining linkages with cancer centers or units, relevant professional organizations or elements of national or regional governments, and coordinate ongoing INCTR programs and projects with the country or region. Each Office has an administrative structure consistent with the scope and extent of its activities and may employ medical, scientific and support staff. Offices will, in many circumstances, evolve into Branches as local needs increase.

INCTR Offices and Directors

INCTR India Office

The INCTR India Office is located at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, India. Dr Manorama Bhargava, the Head of Hematology at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, is the Director.

The India Office coordinates INCTR projects in India. INCTR has on-going projects in the study of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and palliative care. The office will assist INCTR and four major cancer centers in India to establish and develop a cooperative group focused on the common goal of improving the survival of children, adolescents, and young adults with ALL in India. This cooperative group will expand to include other cancer centers and medical institutions. The office will also organize and plan INCTR educational workshops in India.

INCTR Tanzania Office

The INCTR Office in Tanzania is headed by Dr Twalib Ngoma and is located at the Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Dar Es Salaam.

The mission of the office is to build capacity for high quality cancer treatment and research in Tanzania. The current activities include an early detection program for cervical cancer, conducted in collaboration with IARC, the establishment of a population based cancer registry, participation in a cooperative clinical study of the treatment of Burkitt's lymphoma with 2 other African countries, and education and training of medical staff in cancer care. The office will also be involved in coordinating projects to expand access to treatment for Burkitt's lymphoma and to palliative care.

INCTR (UK)

INCTR UK is located at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London. Dr Ama Rohatiner is the Director of the UK Office.

The specific aims of the office are to participate in selected INCTR educational activities - including clinical trials workshops, workshops for doctors and nurses, the visiting expert program and fellowship training programs - and to promote collaborative research projects between academic institutions in developing countries and those in more affluent countries. The office is actively involved in the development of research programs related to the treatment of recurrent Burkitt's lymphoma in African patients. These research programs are being developed in collaboration with INCTR's Clinical Trials Office and the African Burkitt's Lymphoma Strategy Group.
