BIOGRAPHY
Raj Shah
Mr. Shah serves as the Chairman of Capital Technology Information Service, Inc (CTIS, Inc). Mr. Shah is committed to supporting and improving the healthcare system through Information Technology. He believes that proper use of information technology will reduce the burden of the disease across the areas of awareness, surveillance, epidemiology, research, treatment and chronic stage care with specific emphasis of the use of prevention mechanism for diseases such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, heart and diabetes. Mr. Shah's work, both professionally and philanthropically, reflect his dedication to combating chronic diseases around the world.
Over the past 30 years, Mr. Shah has directed over $1 billion of healthcare informatics, developing products and services that help clinical trial sponsors improve the safety, efficacy and efficiency of their clinical trials. CTIS's work also improves the speed of the workflows that move biomedical discoveries rapidly from clinical testing into clinical practice. Currently, CTIS is a prime contractor for National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Allergy Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and its Division of AIDS, and National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in the area of clinical and biological informatics with over $250 million in contracts. CTIS's work through these contracts enables necessary clinical trials to be conducted in over 40 countries. CTIS donates annually over $3 million in funding and in-kind services to the philanthropic and non-profit activities. CTIS has also worked for governmental organizations, including Departments of Energy, Education, Transportation, Commerce and Health, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Science Foundation and the World Bank.
Mr. Shah is Chairman of the Information Technology and Fundraising Committees of the Board of Governors of the International Network of Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR). Mr. Shah is Chairman of an international cooperative group (ICOG) of major academic medical and hospital centers; and founded a non-profit organization, Worldwide Assistance for chronic disease management. He is Vice Chairman of International Spirit of Life Foundation (ISOLF), which provides awareness and fundraising support for cancer programs. Mr. Shah is member of an advisory board to the Johns Hopkins University. He serves as a board member of the Bhagwan Mahavir Cancer Research Center in Jaipur, India. Mr. Shah is on the advisory board for fundraising for INOVA Fairfax Hospital. He has served on institutional review boards of Georgetown University, Medstar Research Institute and Washington Hospital Center; and as Vice Chairman of the leadership board of Washington Cancer Institute at Washington Hospital Center. Mr. Shah serves as an advisor to Community Ministries of Rockville though which he supports MobileMed, a non-profit organization that provides medical care to the uninsured of Montgomery County, Maryland. He and his wife are on the fundraising committee of the International Children's Festival. Mr. Shah is a past board member of Washington Civic Symphony and Center for Communication Health and Environment.
Mr. Shah holds bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics from the University of Bombay, a master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Detroit, and has attended the master of business administration program at Harvard Business School. He has written several books, most notably, Managing Large Scale Data Base Models, for the Department of Energy, and Economic and Energy Forecasting Using Input/Output Model, for the Control Data Corporation. Mr. Shah has given over 100 lectures on disease management areas and the use of information technology.
