Committees advise INCTR with respect to policy, legal and ethical issues within the scope of the terms of reference of each committee.
Current Committees:
The Ethical Review Committee was established in January, 2001 in order to provide INCTR with independent ethical advice on research engaged in by INCTR. The Ethical Review Committee is comprised of scientists, medical experts, ethicists, patient representatives and laypersons. It provides independent guidance, advice and decision on biomedical research protocols or programs sponsored by INCTR as well as ethical advice on issues presented to it by INCTR. The committee functions similarly to an institutional review board in the United States or a French Comité consultatif pour la protection des personnes dans la recherché biomédicale. The committee presents the conclusions of its reflections to the President of INCTR in the form of independent, non-binding advice and/or a decision.
This committee – comprised of a consortium of representatives of organizations, both for-profit and non-profit - advises INCTR on ways in which educational resources for cancer can be made widely and freely available via the internet and actively participates in the development of a web portal that provides access to such resources.
